Pedal Generators

June 5, 2017 By Matthew Little

We can supply many different types of pedal generators, including portable systems.

We have three main types of generator:

  • Roller Wheel Generator
  • Hub Generator
  • Recumbent Generator

Roller Wheel Pedal Generators

These are portable, fold away and fit a wide range of bicycles. They are a low-cost option, but do require a 26″-28″ wheeled bike.

These have a 250W generator and a reasonable cyclist can maintain 50-100W on this system.

These units fold flat for easy transportation.

The generators come with a hard-wearing flex and 20A powercon connector.

We have used this design for the majority of our pedal powered events and they have proven to be robust and reliable. These can be branded with different colour schemes for additional cost.

The roller wheel pedal generator is not as good in wet weather and also is not as efficient as a hub generator.

Hub Pedal Generators

These use a more efficient generator in the hub of the rear wheel. This is heavier, but does not require as much set-up as no roller to adjust to the wheel. Again these fit into standard 26″-28″ wheel bicycles – please let us know the wheel size, as the back wheel must be replaced by the generator. We supply the wheel with hub generator and a stand to hold the back wheel up.

These have a 500W generator and a reasonable cyclist can maintain 100-200W on this system.

We can also provide these generators on bespoke built frames. These do not require an additional bicycle, but are a bit harder to transport. These come in both adult’s (26″ bike) and children’s (BMX bike) sizes.

Recumbent Pedal Generators

The Bespoke Gear recumbent generator is a robust and efficient pedal generator system. It is designed to be more suitable for cinema events and better for people who do not want to get onto a ‘normal’ bike.

It has a 500W generator and a reasonable cyclist can maintain 100-200W on this system.

Please note the control regulator on this is additional – see control regulators for more information. The unit can have in-built LED lights to feedback the output power to the user.

The chair is adjustable for different sized people and removable so the unit can easily fit into the back of a small car.

There are vinyl details and a chain guard to protect wandering fingers. We can provide different vinyl details and colour schemes, if required.

All of our pedal generators require a control unit to regulate the output from the cyclist. There are many different options for this, please see our price list and website for more information.

We can also provide bespoke interesting and interactive displays to work with all our pedal generators. Please see the Displays section for more information or contact us to discuss your ideas.
