This is where we post about the day-to-day life in the re-innovation workshop. We aim to highlight interesting ideas and projects, show the way we develop products and explain anything that we think might be useful to other people.

The workshop at re-innovation is a unit within the Hopkinson Gallery in central Nottingham, run by The Art Organisation. This is a not for profit group for the promotion of arts and creativity within the community.

re-innovation has been at this site for over a year and has installed a small solar photovoltaic system to run a few of the electrical loads.

This system comprises 2 x 90Wp Lorentz high efficiency solar modules, wired in parallel at 12V DC. This feeds a 140Ah lead-acid battery. A BP solar charge regulator is used to ensure the batteries are not overcharged. We use one of our prototype battery monitors to measure the energy generated (21.8kWh in 2010). We run a number of devices at 12V (sometimes through a DC/DC converter) including a laptop computer and LED lighting. A 250W pure-sine wave inverter is used to power small tools (such as the soldering irons) and test equipment.

This system is used as a test-bed for the battery monitors and charge regulators that we develop. It is always good to 'live' with a product to test it and find out how it performs on a real system.

This is the new and improved Renewable Energy Innovation website. Hopefully you will like the look and feel of this site. It has been designed to make it easier to maintain and update. Please take a bit of time to have a look around. All the information from the old website is available here and we hope to be adding more information and plans and designs all the time.

We hope to keep a weekly blog of interesting ideas and experiments.

There is an improved information area where you will find free information sheets relating to renewable energy, mainly small-scale off-grid systems.

All our projects will be showcased in the projects section.

We will also have an on-line shop in the products section, where a number of devices can be obtained.

Please do not hesitate to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you think that we may be able to help with your project. Also, if you have used the information here for any purpose, we would love to know.

For those of you who are interested in the tech details:

This site is using Joomla 1.5 - an amazingly powerful, free, open-source content management system. We have based the site design on the JA_Purity template, with quite a few tweeks. We will be using virtuemart open-source online shopping system to be able to sell products and kits.

All of this is hosted by Host Papa, who only use renewable energy to power their servers.

Please check back regularly, as we will be adding more information often.
